PARAGLIDING: My fellow Colombo teacher Vaya left last week to travel around Colombia for a month and then return to Greece. For her last weekend in town we went into the hills near Bucaramanga to go paragliding!
We each flew for 15 minutes with a pilot sitting behind us steering the paraglider. Hanging in mid-air among the birds, overlooking the city and the mountains was a unique feeling and the whole experience was very relaxing.
KUISITAMBÓ: This week a local radio station organized a concert in Parque Santander with three traditional Colombian bands, including Kuisitambó. They are a shining example of Colombia’s incredible musical legacy that I love so much.
The park was also decorated with art that had been painted live in the park a few days earlier.
INDEPENDENCE DAY: Today is Colombia’s Independence Day. It’s not quite the 4th of July – no BBQs to go to, no fireworks, just a giant parade put on by the military. A few nights earlier the military was in the streets at 10PM doing a rehearsal of the parade. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the band playing “The Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garfunkel as part of their medley.
